John Galliano Spring Summer 2009

Even though Paris Fashion Week is over and the fashion shows are now taking place in Toronto as we speak I had to do one last post ft. the amazing John Galliano before I move on to Toronto Fashion Week.

So John Galliano's women's Spring Summer 2009 line was every little girls fantasy come true. It's like these models jumped straight out of fairy tales and landed on the runway. I love the soft whimsical fabrics and silhouettes he used to reinforce the soft, loveable feminine side of the clothing. Now what I really loved the most was how he also added a touch of strength and power with his acessories, all the large "fairy tale" hats that were so tenderly placed on the heads the models were all very masculine hats. The English palace guards hat and the early 1800's two point hat made huge added a sense of high rank and power to these women even though the clothes were very feminine.

I also have to mention the black trench coat with all the wide belts in the front, I think this refreshing version of the classic trench is current, unique and would make any girl feel beautiful and comfortable.

The next best thing about this line was that if you edit the accessories these clothes are very wearable!

Valentino Spring/Summer 2009

Valentino Spring/Summer 2009

I love Valentino but since his retirement am I the only one who has noticed having two people designing this line is giving it a split personality? The quality and fabrics are still amazing but some of the designs look like the target market is 50-80 and some look like red carpet designs for women 20-40. Some designs I could see Hilary Clinton in and some I could see Nicole Kidman in. That is a big difference in style. Over all it was a great line but I think the designers need to work together a bit more to keep the line together to have a uniform style and feel. I also feel that they should have finished the fashion show off with the brown kimono evening dress instead of the long brown jacket that was so old feeling for the beautiful fun, young dress that was under it.

Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2009

Wow.

What can I say? I love you John Galliano. You are amazing! Amazing doesn't even describe the collection he designed for Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2009.

I am almost speechless, I don't even know how to describe this line to you. I am in awww.

I have watched this fashion show three times in the past two days. I just can't get enough of it.

The dresses were more than brilliant. They were a dream. The colours so feminine so calm yet so eye catching. The way he sculpts the fabric is unbelievable! As a trained fashion designer I can't imagine the thought and time that went into making those patterns.

The details in the designs remind me of Baroque and Rococo designs. The corsets did not v in the center front such as in those times but the details of the decoration remind me of those times.

Right now I don't even know what else to say about this collection.

INSANITY, BRILLIANCE AND AWESOMENESS ALL WRAPPED UP INTO ONE BEAUTIFUL PACKAGE!
